Efforts for relief and recovery are proceeding vigorously in regions and states affected by flooding, including the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. Assistance is being provided to relocate essential items for monasteries, schools, hospitals, and government buildings, while sanitation work is ongoing on local roads, bridges, and villages in Zeyathiri, Pyinmana, Lewe, and Pobbathiri townships within Nay Pyi Taw, as well as in Kalaw in southern Shan State and Loikaw in Kayah State. Members of Tatmadaw, police officers, firefighters, Red Cross personnel, and civil society organizations are collaborating with residents to clear debris and fallen trees, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
Additionally, temporary shelters are offering vital health care services and awareness programmes to flood victims. Essential supplies, including clothing, food, and funds, have been distributed by the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, chief ministers of the relevant states and regions, and other officials.
Furthermore, efforts to repair roads and bridges damaged by the flooding are underway. Temporary steel Bailey bridges are being installed as replacements, while repairs on other damaged bridges are progressing swiftly.
The flooding and landslides in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and various states and regions were caused by the remnants of Typhoon Yagi, resulting in fatalities and widespread destruction. As of 1 October, a total of 436 civilians have died, and 66 others are reported missing. Additionally, 181,491 animals have perished, while 793,619 acres of paddy fields and 73,424 acres of other crop cultivations have been destroyed. Numerous houses, schools, government buildings, and essential infrastructure have also been lost in the floods.
